Health Festival & Mobile Clinic (2009)

Dubai Healthcare City organised a unique, two-day, community Health Festival on 6-7th November 2009. Health Festival 09 provided a fun and interactive experience, encouraging all ages and nationalities to make health and wellbeing a priority. Two weeks prior to the festival, DHCC ran a mobile clinic out-reach initiative for labourers helping to build DHCC and supporting Dubai's growth. A team of medical experts offered free health checks, screening and advice. DHCC wishes to thank everyone who supported the Health Festival campaign. The festival represented a community initiative, bringing together partners within DHCC with other organisations committed to supporting public engagement on health. In total 1400 people attended the festival and over 1,200 people received free health checks through the mobile clinic. The feedback from the public who attended the festival showed that 70% were first time visitors to DHCC, 97% would come again. Sponsors of Health Festival include National Health Insurance Company Daman, Benefiber, The City Hospital and Magrabi Eye Hospital.

Quit & Win: Smoking Cessation Program (2009)

Tobacco control and smoking cessation are critical public health issues worldwide. The United Arab Emirates is no exception with cigarettes, shisha and midwakh being consumed on a daily basis. DHCC therefore participated in the campaign "Live Healthy, Live Tobacco Free" on May 31st 2009 (World No Tobacco Day) and led a program "Quit and Win" which provided regular smokers with the support to quit all forms of smoking over a 30-day period. The program was originally started in Finland and has grown to see participation of nearly eight million smokers from over 90 countries. Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center, HealthCall, Imperial Healthcare Institute and Medicenters International came on board to help participants through their quit journey which resulted in 50% of registrants successfully quitting. This compares to the international benchmark of 20-24%.

Breast Cancer Awareness Campaigns (2008-2009)

Breast Cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer-related deaths amongst women and Arab Nationals tend to develop breast cancer at least a decade earlier than their Western counterparts. DHCC has been a major supporter of raising breast cancer awareness in the region. Our 2008 campaign won a Silver Lion at the Cannes International Advertising Festival and we entered the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the world's largest breast cancer ribbon. We also signed up to the Making it Our Business Breast Cancer Awareness Program in the workplace - intiated in reponse to the U.S Middle East Partnership for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research established by former First Laura Bush. The DHCC workplace initiative includes workshops and education sessions and DHCC has presented to a wide range of business and educational establishments to increase awareness. In 2009, DHCC teamed up with Proctor and Gamble on their 'Choose Wise & Save Lives' campaign which was focused on actively educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health by spreading the message that early detection is the best method for successfully treating breast cancer.
