When she was only 11 years old, Nima Freij suffered extensive skin and muscle loss and a severe disfiguring injury to her right leg after a large explosion went off beside her during the conflict in Gaza in 2009. With very limited access to medical facilities and expertise in her country, Nima who is now 18, was referred by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) in Dubai Healthcare City to ensure optimal recovery. She arrived safely in the UAE with the support of Etihad Airways and received skin grafting treatment for her reconstructive surgery. A more hopeful Nima see this surgery as a first step in improving her life and looks on to the future with her aspirations to study law.
