Genetic testing can identify the risks of developing genetic disorders as they track the changes in chromosomes, genes, or proteins. Several hundred genetic tests are currently in use and more are being developed particularly for pre-natal and pregnant women, according to Dr Afshin PourMirza, Managing Director of Fetal Medicine and Genetic Center (FMGC).

Dr PourMirza’s comments came ahead of the ceremony marking the center’s 20,000 patient visits. Held in collaboration with Dubai Healthcare City, the ceremony was attended by Dr Laura Salasco, Executive Director Operations Dubai Healthcare City, Dr Afshin PourMirza, Managing Director of FMGC, senior management representatives of various medical organizations, patients and more than 50 gynecologists from Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, also representatives from Médecins Sans Frontières medical aid organization and charity (Doctors Without Borders).
During the ceremony, the Fetal Medicine and Genetic Center announced the name of its 20,000th patient Mrs Fatima Al Mazmi and gifted her with a full pregnancy package and a gift voucher from Babyshop.
The Fetal Medicine and Genetic Center is the only certified and approved center in the region by Fetal Medicine Foundation, United Kingdom, and they are the only center performing first trimester screening test in one step and providing its patients their result within 2 hours.
