Announcement made during the 20th anniversary meeting of SESAM in Poland (June 12-14, 2014).
2nd UAE Clinical Simulation Conference will be SESAM’s first foray in the Middle East.
Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) will organize its 2nd UAE Clinical Simulation Conference (CSC) 2015 with the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM).
The announcement was made in Poland during the 20th anniversary meeting of SESAM, a largest network of simulation professionals in Europe. The UAE CSC 2015 conference will be SESAM's first foray in the MENA (Middle East and Africa) region.
The collaboration was formalized in the presence of Dr Amer Sharif, Managing Director – Education, DHCC and Dr Ralf Krage, President of SESAM along with senior delegates.
The 2nd UAE Clinical Simulation Conference will be held in February (24-25) at DHCC's academic complex, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Centre (MBR-AMC). The MBR-AMC is home to the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Centre (KHMSC), the first comprehensive simulation training facility of its kind in the region.
The 2015 conference will be organized with SESAM under the theme 'Simulation: heart of patient safety'. The first UAE Clinical Simulation Conference 2014 was only endorsed by SESAM.
Dr Sharif said, "Simulation training in medical education is critical. Through our first conference, we pushed for safer medical practice in the region, and shed light on the training requirements to increase capacity. The collaboration in 2015 with SESAM is going to take this dialogue further, and ensure that simulation is recognized as the core of medical training for healthcare professionals and technologists."
Dr Krage said, "From my initial visit to DHCC in January this year, and then for the 1st UAE Clinical Simulation Conference in February, it was our joint interest to push for the use of simulation in medical education. Through our first MENA region conference with DHCC in 2015, we will ratify that interest. I look forward to a successful conference backed by European expertise in simulation."
The event in Poland, which took place on June 12-14, saw the first abstract - 'Establishing the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Centre', being presented to an international audience. The event also witnessed DHCC receiving an award from SESAM to commemorate the partnership.
