Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) today reaffirmed its commitment to education by announcing its progress and strategic plans and aspirations for 2013 as it continues to enhance the region’s specialised talent pool.
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Centre (MBRM-AMC), DHCC’s education division, continues to develop its medical education portfolio to further enhance its position as an internationally recognised medical education hub.
Through collaborations with anchor educational partners such as Dubai School of Dental Medicine, European University College and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, MBRM-AMC promotes academic and tertiary healthcare, education, research and community service of the highest quality across the UAE and the region.
Marwan Abedin, CEO of DHCC said, “We are committed to establishing world-class medical education and research programmes within the Emirate. DHCC has therefore put education at the forefront of our plans for 2013 and has committed to supporting high quality institutions in efforts to build a specialised medical talent pool in the region.
“Through our education programmes we aim to create a sustainable quality healthcare workforce, allowing UAE residents to be best treated closer to home. Providing students with education from institutions which represent global benchmarks in specialist training will further position Dubai as a credible leader in medical education. In addition, partnership with the recently announced Al Jalila Foundation to support medical treatment, education and research will facilitate the realisation of DHCC’s research aspirations.”
Highlighting its dedication to education and the emphasis placed on academia and research, DHCC is also focusing on providing educational platforms for knowledge sharing within the healthcare free zone. The academic medical complex also includes a Conference Center offering state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate an increasing number of global educational conferences. In 2012, to promote excellence and quality within the clinical care setting, DHCC hosted regular ‘grand round’ meetings to ensure its licenced physicians were continuously updated on the latest medical and scientific advancements. The center also hosted numerous educational platforms throughout the year providing medical professionals the opportunity to earn Continuous Medical Education (CME) credits. Multiple international conferences and congress were hosted, which saw DHCC once again welcome participants from the global healthcare community sharing knowledge and ensuring DHCC continued to offer its professionals access to excellence within the medical field.
The center looks forward to welcoming speakers representing global standards in specialist education in 2013, from around the world, for the benefit of medical professionals and further supporting DHCC’s vision as a medical education hub focused on developing local talent.
DHCC’s Academic Medical Center is home to Dubai School of Dental Medicine, a home-grown specialist dental school led by world-renowned experts; the Al Maktoum Medical Library, a state-of-the-art facility housing the region’s most advanced collection of medical education resources; the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center, a ground-breaking state-of-the-art comprehensive clinical simulation training facility; and the University Teaching Hospital, a 400 bed multidisciplinary center (currently under development) providing further education for healthcare professionals. These strategic projects are at the forefront of improving educational opportunities in the region.
As DHCC continues to strengthen its educational influence, Dubai School of Dental Medicine this month welcomed its inaugural class of postgraduate students, the first of many milestones for DHCC’s flagship education division.
Professor David Wray, Dean of Dubai School of Dental Medicine said “The opening of Dubai School of Dental Medicine heralds the start of a new chapter in the realisation of the vision of Dubai Healthcare City. Our new students will become the first home-grown dental specialists in Dubai and ambassadors for Dubai School of Dental Medicine.”
