Dubai, January 27, 2015: Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the world’s largest healthcare free zone, today launched in partnership with GE Healthcare the ‘Heart Health’ campaign to assess the risk for cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and raise awareness towards prevention strategies.

The year-long campaign, unveiled on the side-lines of Arab Health, aims to reach more than 5,000 residents by January 2016.

The campaign builds on the partnership between Dubai Healthcare City and GE Healthcare to drive a comprehensive ‘Heart Health’ screening programme in Dubai. As part of the initiative, GE will set up screening booths across several locations in Dubai.

The screening will include tests for basic heart health check, blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Clinical support will be provided by DHCC-based German Heart Center and Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center, the campaign’s support partners. In addition, residents with positive diagnosis will be able to set up complimentary first-time consultations at both centers.

Cardiovascular diseases include coronary heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure (hypertension), and rheumatic heart disease. Heart disease is one of the biggest health problems in the UAE, and a leading cause of death.

Marwan Abedin, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Healthcare City, said: “A focus on preventative care is integral if we are to become a healthy, productive nation. Trends in healthcare point out to a focus away from disease and towards prevention and wellness. Dubai Healthcare City is committed to being the catalyst in enabling integrated healthcare and wellness. In this we are proud of our partnership with GE Healthcare in the ‘Heart Health’ campaign that will take prevention programmes to the community. Small efforts towards a healthier nation will have big impact on future healthcare costs and the overall economy.”

Maher Abouzeid, President and CEO of GE Healthcare in Turkey and Middle East, said: “As the biggest killer in the UAE, tackling head-on the growing burden of cardiovascular disease is a critical healthcare imperative for the country. To that end, GE is proud to be partnering with Dubai Healthcare City with the support of Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Center and German Heart Centre as key program contributors in our ‘Heart Health’ screening campaign.

“Increased awareness, regular self-monitoring, screening and improved lifestyle choices, can have a real impact on morbidity and mortality rates. GE is focused on strengthening public awareness of heart health screening by working with public and private sector entities. We will continue to support the UAE’s efforts to address the incidence of cardiovascular disease.”

The campaign will run on social media; hashtag #mybeatdxb.
