Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) today announced the opening of the Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor Medical Simulation Center (KHMSC), a state-of-the-art center and the first comprehensive training facility of its kind in the region. The Center is a key component of DHCC’s ever expanding medical education portfolio.
The Center features ground-breaking technology and provides training for healthcare professionals in a simulated environment. This unique training experience uses interactive human patient simulators that provide both clinicians and students the opportunity to learn, rehearse and perfect procedures, in a risk-free environment.
KHMSC is one of the main projects within the Mohammed Bin Rashid Academic Medical Center (MBR-AMC) portfolio, the academic and research arm of DHCC, and shares the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, for academic excellence in healthcare training. DHCC is committed to further developing its education offering and positioning itself as an internationally recognised medical education hub.
Dr. Amer Sharif, Managing Director of DHCC’s Education Division, said: “Simulation learning is the most powerful form of education. People remember actual experiences, and by embedding simulation as a routine activity its power to enable professionals to aspire to excellence will be fully realised.
Healthcare is a discipline which is subject to rapid development of new techniques, and professionals need to keep up to date, both with knowledge and skills. The KHMSC provides training in a clinical setting with no risk to patients whilst achieving our aim to build a specialised medical talent pool in the region.”
Mr. Khalaf Al Habtoor, Chairman of Al Habtoor Group, a prominent and highly respected citizen of the United Arab Emirates, known for his many business achievements and philanthropic endeavours has generously donated funds to support the KHMSC, testament to his commitment to the advancement of healthcare in the region.
“I feel a duty to support the development of healthcare within our nation and share the vision of DHCC to provide students and medical professionals with the best possible tools for learning. Through the Medical Simulation Center we are able to offer the very finest facilities to develop elite medical teams,” commented Mr. Al Habtoor.
Marwan Abedin, CEO of DHCC, said: “We are immensely grateful to Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor for his patronage and generosity in developing the Medical Simulation Centre. We are very proud to be able to offer such advanced training facilities to healthcare professionals in the UAE.
Through collaborations with anchor educational partners, MBR-AMC promotes academic and tertiary healthcare, education, research and community service of the highest quality across the UAE and the region. We aim to create a sustainable quality healthcare workforce, allowing UAE residents to be best treated closer to home.”
Dr. Wajdi Al Daghma, MD of Strategy and Business Development added “The KHMSC is an example of successful strategic partnerships between leading medical devices manufacturers and Healthcare Education Providers, which allow DHCC to offer a globally respected patient centric focus medical education based on latest innovation in both technology and human skills development.”
The Center offers a unique opportunity to practice clinical skills, hands-on, from basic to very complex procedures and encourage critical thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration among medical teams. KHMSC is home to two operating rooms, equipped with high-fidelity mannequins, intensive care and post-anesthesia units, operating rooms, patient care rooms, a ward environment and a maternity room. A pre-hospital training facility for simulated trauma, such as car crashes, featuring ambulance and helicopter environments, will also be available as part of the rollout of the Center.
