An extensive agenda of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and community engagement activities marked 2010 as an outstanding year, announced Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of TECOM Investments’ Science Cluster.

Reiterating its commitment to improving the health and well-being of the community, the integrated healthcare free zone remains committed to CSR initiatives in 2011. It aims to continue focusing on women’s health initiatives, employee engagement, as well as community education and general public health activities.

Throughout 2010, DHCC organised eight patient-employee engagement events at TECOM Investments, where various specialties delivered over 679 free consultations to employees of TECOM and its business partners.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of TECOM Investments’ Science Cluster, said: “As an integrated healthcare free zone, DHCC is committed to sustaining and improving healthcare excellence, and upholding service standards as well as the status of the healthcare sector in the region. Our efforts will also be dedicated to developing an agenda of CSR programmes that will benefit the wider society at large.”

For the second year in a row, a team of experts from various DHCC-based clinics conducted health camps offering free general check-ups, eye tests and dental screenings to construction workers at Dubai Industrial City, a member of TECOM Investments’ Manufacturing and Logistics Cluster, as well as Nuzul, a Dubai Properties Group accommodation for skilled labour.

Concurrently, programmes conducted at Dubai Healthcare City during the year highlighted the need for increased health awareness among the female and male workforce in Dubai.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah added: “We are grateful for the support of DHCC-based healthcare providers who were constantly open to sharing their best-practice diagnostic and medical services to improve the health of the community. They have been highly cooperative and contributed to our mission of establishing a destination of choice for quality healthcare through their state-of-the-art services.”

DHCC also organised the annual blood donation drive in collaboration with Blood Donation Centre (BDC), the central blood bank of Al Wasl Hospital, where over 100 people donated blood highlighting the community’s involvement in saving people’s lives.

A patient outreach workshop was organized as part of DHCC’s mission to educate individuals and enhance their lifestyle. Prominent Islamic preacher Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Al Kubaisi, along with Dr. Nasir Nawasreh, General Physician at The JCI-accredited The City Hospital, offered useful tips on the importance of healthy fasting during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

To mark the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, DHCC partnered with the German Clinic and offered a series of free workshops and consultations to spread awareness on the importance of early detection. Additionally, DHCC held awareness workshops at Sharjah Women’s College and offered clinical breast examinations to students and female staff.

Dr. Ayesha Abdullah concluded: “One of the most heartening trends I have witnessed is the increased importance businesses are beginning to place on community issues and CSR concerns. Companies too are becoming more accountable for their actions. Of course, there is still a long way to go, but the cooperation of our clinics and healthcare providers, and the positive response we have received from patients strengthen our commitment to further developing our CSR agenda.”

In 2010, DHCC attracted new providers in various specialties including ENT, ayurvedic medicine, obstetrics and gynecology/fertility treatment, and internal medicine.

Over the past eight years, DHCC has grown into a cluster of over 90 outpatient medical centres and diagnostic laboratories, two JCI-accredited hospitals, as well as more than 150 commercial healthcare and retail services that follow stringent standards in healthcare delivery.
